Richard Rich, 1st Baron Rich, in full Richard Rich, 1st Baron Rich of Leighs, (born c. 1496, London, Eng.—died June 12, 1567, Rochford, Essex), powerful minister to England’s King Henry VIII and lord chancellor during most of the reign of King Edward VI. RICHARD RICH, first Baron Rich (1496?-1567), lord chancellor, second son of Richard Rich and Joan Dingley, his wife, was probably born in 1496, since early in 1551 he is officially described as fifty-four years of age and more.
